Description
A feather star. These look like plants but are actually animals related to starfish (the have five planes of symmetry). They move around to get the best current so they can pick up small organisms floating past. The organisms stick to the arms and are pulled towards a central mouth on a kind of conveyor belt. They often feed at night and hide in crevases during the day. Photo taken while diving in Fiji.
